Abstract
We study the problem of thresholding the residual of template matching as a preprocess for selecting correct matches between feature points in two images. In order to determine the threshold dynamically, we introduce a statistical model of the residual and compute an optimal threshold according to that model. The model parameters are estimated from the histogram of the residuals of candidate matches. Using real images, we show that our method can substantially upgrades the quality of the initial matches by simply adjusting the threshold.
